What a n00b, everyone knows you shouldn't make your structures out of wood.
It's usually in this comment section here that I confess to my stupidity on Minecraft, relating to the comic strip. But I never made my buildings out of wood. When I was a beginner, I used to dig my home into the ground to create a cave, and when I decided to make a house, I would always have plenty of stone. To me, wood was too valuable to waste on using it as a building material. Now that I'm an expert and a cheater, I sometimes create log cabins, but mostly only for the visual effect.

I did once make a log cabin with a chimney, which when I lit a fire in, it burnt down. I then rebuilt it and did it again, only for it to burn down again. I then rebuilt it again (remember, it had a rather complex roof, so it took quite a bit of time) I completely reinforced the chimney, blocking off all sides, and guess what, it burnt down again. I then rebuilt it once last time, this time going all out with the chimney, even to the extent where it ruined the looks of the cabin, and then started a fire in the fireplace. I waited, and waited. Thankfully, it still HASN'T burnt down yet.
