Check out the official website for the latest 20 Quid Amusements comic strip!

Now the only question that remains, is whether or not Doug knows he's in a comic, or he simply believes he's in a comic. One means he's self aware, the other means he's crazy.

Considering he lives with a demonically possessed teddy bear who likes to ruin everything, I'm guessing Tod told him that he's nothing more than a comic strip character.

Why does censoring even exist
Children hear those words from their parents anyways

That is a very good question.
A very very good question. :hmm:

I honestly have no idea why.

But I can tell you why I sometimes censor words in my comics. For comedic effect. They seem to have a bit more punch to them when you bleep them out. It makes them sound like they're worse than they actually are.

But that doesn't explain why we censor swear words in general though. And usually don't even let them into media for kids. To the point where having swearing can actually increase the age you have to be to see that media. That's just insane now that I think about it.

Hilariously, swear words in languages other than English aren`t censored as well, so can they be considered swear words in English too?

That is a very good question.
Could that mean that what is considered a swear word, is actually subjective and depends on the listener?

If you ask me, the answer seems to be yes, since there was a time some swear words of today weren`t swear words back in the day like a fag, a bastard and a b*tch. Too bad they became that because people used/use them as insults or as derogatory terms ... even if some swear words of the past aren`t swear words of today anymore, like the infamous "potato-head" one from my language as it would be translated and "thundering lightning". Nowadays you don`t even hear people say these 2 anymore! :,D

"Thundering lightning" used to be a swear phrase in your language?
Wow, and here I thought it was just a normal phrase you might use to describe the weather when it's both thundering and lighting. :giggle:

That being said, I think you're definitely right. There are some silly words and phrases that used to be considered swearing, and the swearing nowadays would have probably been considered silly back then.

It's funny how language changes over time.

Yeps, in my country, that one used to be a swear word aside "mother of chicken" as well (which was mostly used in terms like "Not even chicken`s mother loves you!"), but nowadays ... yeah, I don`t even hear these be used anymore and I`m not sure how to feel about it. ;P
Exactly ... except the infamous Fuck you bye word, that one wears the crown of always being considered a swear word, from its inception until today. As well as any body part of "your mum".

Now I'm starting to wish that I knew some old fashioned and outdated swear words. Unfortunately none are coming to mind. So I guess I don't know any. :hmm:

Ha ha, so the F word has always been considered taboo. :giggle:
I wonder if it's a global word. :?

Maybe you can try Google them?
 Well, I dunno about you, but I think that the F word is global indeed, only said differently in different languages like German or my native language (where the F-word is actually said "J-word" instead), so ... yeah, this one is the king of foul language if you ask me. :giggle:

Well I took a look for some old swear words, and found out that apparently "Consarn" was an old swear word. Although I'm fairly sure that's a psudo-swear word that's still in use to this day, like "gosh darn it to heck". All the other old swear words I found, also looked like psudo-swear words, ones that I have a hard time believing were ever used in a serious tone (or are even old). But hey, what do I know.

Well it's nice to know that at least one swear word is both global and timeless. Too bad the F-word doesn't quite have the same kick to it, as some language specific swear words.
